Temporary Exhibits at the Big Timbers Museum
Following the SPURS presentation at Big Timbers Museum, Spurs will be on Temporary Exhibit at the Museum in a special presentation from February 26, until April 26, 2009.
Museum Curator, Kathleen Scranton, praised the Prowers County Historical Society for bringing exciting new programs that include the rotating temporary exhibits to the Big Timbers Museum. These exhibits start with a Presentation Kick Off sharing information about the Temporary Exhibits, featuring a presenter who provides the collectibles.
Displays and exhibits at the Big Timbers Museum are often relevant to the Santa Fe Trail, Pioneers and Homesteading that took place in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. Scranton encourages tourists and members of the community to come visit the museum and the temporary exhibits. Youth groups, classes, and others are welcome to schedule visits for groups at special times, or for special occasions.
Coming attractions for the Temporary Exhibits include an Antique Toy Collection, followed by a Baseball Memorabilia which will be on display during the 2009 Cal Ripkin World Series to appear in Lamar, Colorado in August of 2009.

Big Timbers Museum - Santa Fe Trail
At home along the Santa Fe Trail, the Big Timbers Museum welcomes travelers in from the heat. Air conditioned rooms filled with historic treasures, displays of pioneers, war times, and other relevant presentations offer a respite from the heat. Southern Colorado scorchers have arrived in full force, blowing dry winds across the prairie dry out even the most hydrated of souls, but you can escape.
Escape into the past with photos of the Arkansas River running bank to bank full of water, green grass covered prairies grown tall in the Colorado sunshine. Remember days on the front porch where a sip of lemonade rivaled the front yard sprinkler with refreshment.
Prowers County Historical Society displays represent more than local history. Relevant displays from around the world represent the United States and various other countries. And, don’t forget the notorious Fleagle Gang Robbery exhibits.
